See the scar on my right knee? It’s from a reconstructive knee surgery I had to fix a chronically dislocating kneecap in 2007. I was in recovery for years after and even though I began getting healthier and losing weight in June 2011, 45 pounds and 6 months later I was still limited to walking.
On January 15, 2013 I began training to do what I’d always wanted to do: run. I started with intervals of 4 minutes walking and 1 minute running and by February 7 I was off intervals and just running. I spent most of that month running 2 miles 5 days a week and was amazed after every run because I could actually do it.
Today is March 25, 2013. Today I ran for 50 minutes straight and covered 4.9 miles. It took me six years to get to this point but today I am a runner, today I am strong, and today (and every day) I prove to myself that I can do more than I ever thought possible.
